Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has tagged President John Dramani Mahama as the ‘chief vulture’ in Ghana.
This description of the first gentleman of the land, he said, stems from his conviction that the President has superintended over ‘failed promises’ about floods in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
“The President says we behave like vultures…if I don’t fear, then I would say the President is the chief vulture…,” he said while commenting on the flood situation in the country.
Hundreds of persons lost their lives at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra after flood waters and a fire explosion at a GOIL filling station occurred at the venue on the night of Wednesday, 3rd June, 2015.
The President upon visiting the accident scene lamented over Ghana’s uncaring attitude when reacting to annual floods in the capital and other parts of the country.
The first gentleman of the land attributed this to the ‘vulture attitude’ of Ghanaians and the call ‘to put human faces’ when structures on water ways are being demolished.
This comment of the President has been condemned in certain quarters with his critics claiming that as a man backed by the people’s power, he should be able to carry out his duties in the face of several criticisms.
Nana Akomea commenting on this on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Show on Tuesday said since the President has a history of failed promises with regard to the Accra floods, he also qualifies to be described as the ‘Chief Vulture’.
The failed promises, he mentioned, included the Konti Project which was intended to offer underground drains in Accra.
“The President lacks the political will to do that…with political will, the law would work…,” he said.
Head of Theatre Arts Department of the University of Ghana, Prof Kofi Agyekum who was on the show said he would describe the 3rd June twin disaster as part of ‘Ghana’s great oath’.
He called on the leadership of the country to allow various laws of development to work since Ghana was still returning to an ‘Animal situation’.
“We can live in a country where it seems the laws are made for certain persons and not others…,” he said.
