The Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr Mustapha Ahmed, has urged students to develop interest in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to acquire more skills and knowledge.
According to him, the world revolves around ICT and it is necessary for students to take advantage of it and be abreast of new technologies and developments.
Dr Ahmed gave the advice at the 69th Speech and Prize-Giving day of the West African Secondary School (WASS) in Accra on Saturday.
The event was held on the theme: “Quality education in day schools: The role of stakeholders.” The day was also used to launch the 70th anniversary of the school, which is slated for next year.
Dr Ahmed noted that when students acquired skills in ICT, it secured them employment, which contributes meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the country.
Discipline
Commenting on the theme, Dr Ahmed said education served as a critical tool for the transformation of the individual.
He added: “In order to be successful, one must be disciplined, show competence and capabilities in all endeavours.”
He said everyone must collaborate effectively to overcome the problem of indiscipline to ensure that appropriate training, knowledge, skills and values were transmitted to students for their growth and development and for efficient nation building.
Dr Ahmed also advised students to live decent lives and avoid engaging themselves in negative practices which would jeopardise their future.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Africanus Anane, in his report, said the school, which was established in 1946, now has a population of 1,732, made up of 986 boys and 746 girls.
According to him, although the school continues to attract more qualified students from across the country, it lacks structures to accommodate staff and students, as well as facilities for practical studies.
He said management of the school had refurbished the school canteen and also reconstructed its broken wall to ward off intruders.
Mr Anane commended the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) for constructing a girls dormitory for the school.
Awards were presented to deserving students who excelled in all subjects in the first and second years, with special awards going to some students and individuals who had contributed their quota to the development of the school.
